Last week, David Alpert announced the next step in GGWash’s leadership transition. We, the board of Greater Greater Washington, share David’s confidence in the strength of the staff team that he has built to carry our mission forward. We know Caitlin Rogger will be an intelligent and effective interim leader for the organization as we formally launch the search for our next executive director. This team is an important part of David’s legacy. But so are…YOU.
What David has built is a Greater Greater Washington that is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization that brings people together online and offline to discuss, organize, and advocate for an inclusive, diverse, growing Washington, DC region where all people can choose to live in walkable urban communities.
With David’s departure, the board of GGWash is also evolving in order to institutionalize this vision. We are excited to welcome to the board three 2020 recruits from our volunteer family: Payton Chung, Nick Sementelli, and Tracy Hadden Loh. We would also like to thank the many board members over the years who have worked with David to grow GGWash from a blog in a basement to the community it is today:
Our new, current, and past board members have all teamed up together to create a matching donation pool in David’s honor to recognize, celebrate, and leverage David’s legacy to secure the future of GGWash.
With this pool, we have a material way to show David our appreciation for his work, as well as demonstrate our confidence in the future of GGWash and our continuing commitment to the mission. We will release funds from this pool at a ratio of 2:1 for every dollar that you, the readers, Neighbors, contributors, and volunteers of GGWash contribute, up to $9,850. That means that your gift of $25 will be $75 towards supporting GGWash’s work.
We urge you to join us in building the bridge that will carry GGWash, and our vision of a multimodal, inclusive, vibrant region, into 2021 and beyond. Please join us in celebrating David’s contributions and help us fully unlock this pool by calling board members past and present on their pledges.
